The Eclipse took place the same day as the vernal equinox, which falls this year on March 20, precisely as in 2014 (exactly at 23:45, in our timezone). The next solar eclipse on the same day will fall on March 20, 2034 and then in 2053 and 2072. Every 19 years: why? For a Solar eclipse to take place the New Moon is necessary. And a new moon is seen in the vernal equinox every 19 years.
